π Shaheen falcon (Falco peregrinus peregrinator) The shaheen falcon, also known as the black shaheen, is a subspecies of the peregrine falcon, and is known for its powerful build. It displays blackish upperparts, rufous underparts with dark streaks, and a white throat sharply contrasted by a black face mask. Distinctive rufous underwing-coverts are also present. These falcons inhabit southern Asia, ranging from India and Sri Lanka to southeastern China. They prefer rocky and hilly terrains, often seen perched on cliffs or rock pinnacles. Shaheen falcons are swift predators, known for their incredible diving speeds when hunting. They primarily target other birds, capturing them in mid-air. They are typically solitary or found in pairs, and are known to mate for life.
