The first published appearance of the famous theme, mysterioso pizzicato, by Lampe, in a book of music for silent movie pianists. The theme is in c minor. The first four notes, separated from one another, are the c minor triad, then goes to la before resolving with a four note downward scale back to C. I have heard it a million times. You, probably younger, may have heard it a hundred thousand. Old cartoons and silent movies would be a ripe source.
