The summer of 1966 was so sweltering in Jamaica that the frantic riddims of ska were simply too much for the overheated dancers. As a result, legend (perhaps apocryphal) has it that bandleader Lynn Taitt instructed his players to slow things down, like playing a 45 at 33; that's a vinyl reference for all you space-age kids... ๐. The result was rocksteady, a sultry, sensual groove that was all the rage for about two years before it gave way to reggae and dub. I bring this up because it is indeed already sweltering here in Brooklyn, which often calls for a bit of the ol' rocksteady. So with a tune that bears that very name, here's some more (US) morning mellow.
