Fire, Water Earth
remember that summer
we were stuck in that crazy rainstorm
in that old ruined church on the prairie
and after I got hit by lightning
gettin' a tree so we could make a fire
we got all dried out and ate some food
you let me drag you back out into the rain
to kiss ya
remember how we got soaked through
just drenched
and you didn't wanna stop kissing me
even though we were cold and
our fingers and noses were going numb
and then on our way back in we slipped and
both ended up in the mud
laughing and shivering
you pinned me down
and were bein' all sexy
till you shoved a handful of mud in my face
so I did the same to you
an when we finally dragged our cold wet
muck-covered asses back inside
to dry off by the fire
you fell asleep on me
I remember your face in the firelight
long after the storm was gone
your black tears carved their way through the mud
like tiny rivers
you eye cloth was so gunky you'd taken it off
and I got to watch you sleep
without anything covering your face
we lay on my coat
used your cape like a blanket
and in the mornin'
our muddy clothes had dried out
and we were stuck together
and had to crack an' break apart
where the muck had fused
like we were encased in clay
I kept some of it
the dried shattered mud
put it in a jar
silly, I know, but
it was what had stuck us together like glue
as you slept on me with your eyes naked
after having let me drag you out for kisses in the rain
forgot about it for a little while
but then I found it again
mixed it into the dirt in a pot
packed tight around the top
cut offa that pineapple I cooked for ya
I ain't sayin' it's love that makes it grow
but it sure is a healthy little spike plant now
sharp and fierce
with a heart that, while it tastes sweet,
will still chew right through human flesh
if ya ain't careful
