Cover is a proof copy or advanced reading copy, so this will not be the finished cover for publication. The proof is a solid mid cornflower-blue, on the bottom third of the page is an illustration of the house with chicken legs. The house is running and being chased by Marinka, a young girl in a black dress, a long braid flows behind her as she runs after the house. There are chicken footprints across the bottom right and top left of the cover. The majority of the page is taken up with the authors name (in a block style font) and title of the book (in a flowing cursive font). There are stars around the title. The Usborne publisher's logo - a hot air balloon - is in the top right corner. All the words, footprints, logo and stars are in a gold foil. Some foiling is also on Marinka's dress and shoes and in the windows and stiped legs of the house.

Winter was a great time to cosy up with #TheHouseWithChickenLegsRunsAway by #SophieAnderson
The sequel is perfect as a magical adventure story or for gently supporting teens experiencing death, grief and moving on.
Thanks for the proof copy #UsbornePublishingLtd @youthlibrarygroup.bsky.social ❤️

Painted in 1884, the work is often linked to the July 28, 1883 earthquake on Ischia, near Capri, where French-born, British artist Sophie Gengembre Anderson lived and worked from 1871 to about 1894. Reports declared thousands dead. A bereaved woman’s cry of “Non ho più nessuno!” (“I have no one left!”) sums up the devastation. Instead of picturesque ruins, Anderson pushes rubble to the front and centers the disaster in one woman's body to make public tragedy intimate. Domestic fragments (a broken door, exposed walls) frame her collapse, while a blue sea behind keeps moving to show life continuing past loss. Hard, almost photographic realism departs from the artist's earlier, sweeter Victorian scenes, insisting on witness over consolation.

A wide horizontal canvas opens on a hillside turned to wreckage after an earthquake. In the foreground, an adult woman lies full-length on her left side atop jagged, chalky stones. She draws her knees slightly in and folds her arms up to cover her face, fingers interlaced as if in prayer ... or as if trying to breathe through grief. Her long, dark hair spills in thick waves across the rubble, catching dust and light. A teal scarf is knotted at her neck, and her plain, work-worn deep olive-green dress with a fitted bodice and heavy skirt fans over the rocks in broad, weighty folds. One bare foot extends from the hem, sun-browned and scraped, emphasizing the bodily cost of survival. Shattered timbers, plaster, and a splintered door panel jut from the debris field. To the right, a broken white façade stands open, its rooms exposed like a stage set. In the middle distance, intact villas and terraced slopes appear, then dissolve into a bright, calm seascape with a strip of blue water featuring a single small sail, backed by hazy mountains under a pale sky. The crisp Mediterranean light makes every stone edge almost tangible, so the beauty of distance feels almost cruel beside the close-up weight of collapse.

Valerie and Sophie from Magical Warrior Diamond Heart at a park together with a frog statue. Sophie is sitting on the bench next to the frog statue, hugging it and giving a big smile. Valerie is standing behind her doing a peace sign with one hand and bunny-earing Sophie with the other. Valerie is a short, Black teenage girl with red hair, and Sophie is a tall, white teenage girl with blue hair and glasses. Both of them are wearing their default casual clothes.

I need to know if #SophieAnderson is really dead this time. If so what happened? I don’t know if I’m in denial or if it’s really true.
