🌎 Southern giant hummingbird (Patagona gigas peruviana) This subspecies of the southern giant hummingbird (the largest of its kind) has a mostly yellowish brown plumage, a white throat and a notably long, straight bill. Found exclusively in the Andean regions of Peru and Chile, it inhabits high-altitude scrublands and canyons. This powerful flier expertly hovers while feeding on nectar from large flowers, and fiercely defends its territory against rivals. 1 of 2 subspecies.
