#spikesminis
Using #battletech minis as a way to learn how to light and shade my minis, as well as attempt NMM. Can't say the NMM was very good but I'm happy with the rest.
I still haven't figured out how to thin paints properly, though. It makes like NO SENSE to me haha.
T'chomp, my lizardfolk barbarian. His one and only personality trait is "hungry" and he likes to eat.
#spikesminis
An Owlbear mini. It has dark brown fur with orange, white, and brown feathers. It's standing next to a tree stump, on a texture base painted to look like mossy forest loam. There are tufts of grassy plants around the stump's roots.
Same owlbear as before but seen from behind. Its tail feathers blend into its fur nicely
Close up of the Owlbear mini's face. It's got yellow eyes and a black beak framed by orange, white, and brown feathers
#SpikesMinis
A fierce owlbear I painted today. Realized that I like painting natural stuff more than mechs and military. There's something very satisfying about texturing fur and feathers.
Based the colours on the great horned owl, since it had that face shape. Very happy with the eyes on this.
#spikesminis
Finished my t'au stealth suits! Even based them nicely :3
My latest mini. It's not done yet but it's my first mini in like two or three months so I'm really proud I was able to paint it. I got this kit for my birthday, built and primed them the following weekend, and they've been sitting on my desk waiting since then.

#spikesminis
I primed this mini too much so one side of its face was a black blob. I decided to use this as an experimental mini, I wanted to practice lighting. So I made this rat rogue look like he was stepping out of shadows and into torchlight.
Fenra, Wolf of the End Times
I pushed myself with this model and it came out REALLY NICE. I'm not even gonna shade wash her.
#spikesminis
#spikesminis gonna continue using this tag for now
Two members of my #GodTear squad are finished! They're not perfect, but I'm a little rusty so I'm quite happy with how they turned out. Again I find myself struggling with fine details, especially stuff like teeth and eyes.
#SpikesMinis
Palate cleanser kobolds. This is when I realized that using contrast paint for base coating took too much fun away from me. I'll still use them, but very sparingly moving forward.
#SpikesMinis
My first time painting #warhammer minis and frankly I almost didn't want to post them. I tried to adhere to the box art and as a result I didn't enjoy the process at all. Plus, contrast paints took a LOT of the fun out of the process for me. The minis are fine, I just didn't enjoy them.
#SpikesMinis
This one was kind of a quick and dirty job really. I didn't want to challenge myself, I just wanted to make a cool punk rock orc. So I did lol.
#SpikesMinis
I tried the slap chop method on this heavy metal orc and wow that's a really cool result. I'm probably not gonna use this all the time because it feels too easy lmao but I'm still please with the result.
#SpikesMinis
Hour 8! She's done! Tidied up the highlights, added some contrast to make the wings extra punchy, and painted/grassed the base. I'm SUPER happy with how she came out!
#SpikesMinis
Hour 6! Today was mostly about applying some final touches before shade washing. I also started working on the base. Dry brushed the rock and applied texture paint. Next step is to paint and grass the base.
#SpikesMinis
Hour 5! Starting to look a lot more detailed now. There is some messiness in the wings that I plan to fix up but largely I'm happy with them. I also tried using a yellow contrast paint on the cape and it made the colours really punchy
#SpikesMinis
Hour 2! She's a lot less detailed than the bear was, so I was able to base coat her a lot faster. I got started on the highlights but I'm gonna take a break. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Fresh eyes will see things differently each day.
#SpikesMinis
Hour 0 on my competition mini! Gonna prime her and try to think of how I wanna colour her. Red scales are the obvious answer, but that'll get really muddy with brown leather armor and her scale cape. Blue scales can look nice, too, but will be harder for me to highlight cleanly
#SpikesMinis
I'll try to take better pictures later, but after about 10 hours of work, Charlemagne the pirate bear is finished!
I'm extremely happy with the final result, especially since this was my practice piece leading up to a competition
#SpikesMinis
So far we're up to 8 hours of work on Charlemagne the pirate bear (box gave him a name) i fixed the issues I had with the lighter colours, touched up some highlights, added metallics, and experimented with texture paste! I LOVE HOW IT LOOKS AND I AIN'T EVEN DONE YET!
I think leather is one of my favorite things to paint. It's easy to get right but a little bit of extra effort can make it look so good

#SpikesMinis
I tried a different painting technique for this mini. The effect is a lot smoother than my usual highlights, but I still feel like I could have done better.
#SpikesMinis
Attempt number 2 at Object Sourced Lighting. I like this effect a lot more, but I absolutely way overdid it lmao. Some edge highlighting saved the paint job, though!
#SpikesMinis
I'm SUPER HAPPY with this lava basilisk! Just look at this chonky boi!!
Another piece where I pushed myself, combining techniques that I've used but could do better to produce a mini that I absolutely adore.
#SpikesMinis
I could obviously do MORE on this mini, but the ultimate goal was to attempt OSL using the fires as a light source and not necessarily make a display ready piece. In that regard I think I was successful.
#SpikesMinis
My gaggle of kobolds! Look at the lil bastards! I love them!!
Also they're so hard to paint because they're all in complex poses and they're very smol
#SpikesMinis
WOW THIS ONE WAS HARD!
First time attempting to shade and highlight without dry brush or washes (I did use a bit of wash on some finishing touches)
Tried to make it look like @kultofmany.bsky.social but colour matching is hard as shit and I'm NOT GOOD at it haha.
#SpikesMinis
My new kobolds came in!! And look at them, they're sooooo smol! (Mech for scale)
AAAAAA I've decided to enter a local mini painting competition!! I'm not allowed to start my project until Jan 3rd (have to show them the unpainted mini) and I'm going to enter into the Beginner category since I only have a year of experience!
#SpikesMinis
#Spikesminis
My full battlemech lance is finished! I had a lot of fun painting these, and I got to try a bunch of new techniques. It's fun watching myself improve with every mech I paint!
#SpikesMinis
A better look at the newest model. The highlights I attempted are somewhat more visible here.
