Trek beyond the beaten path in the Swiss Alps Blast from the past: As young adults my brother and I liked to go on ski tours, or backcountry skiing. We started on a spring day very early in the morning, right from our home in Schuders, located in the Swiss Alps near the Austrian border. We first descended to the bottom of the valley, then climbed up on the other side, followed the ridge crest until we reached the Carschinahütte SAC, seen in a distance. This mountain hut was still closed at that time of the year.
