On 30 June 1970, King Baudouin of Belgium paid an official visit to President Mobutu Sese Seko in #Stanleyville (now #Kisangani) to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s independence.

On July 21, 1959, the last military parade celebrating Belgium's National Holiday marched through the streets of #Stanleyville (now #Kisangani). A year later, the Congo would gain its independence.

In October 1964, General #Mobutu organized events in #Leopoldville to celebrate the Belgian-Congolese triumph over the #Arab slavers in 1894, following criticisms made by #Nasser of Egypt against Congo for using white mercenaries to retake #Stanleyville from USSR supported rebels.
