I made the lining for #StateFairSewing skirt and got it put in. All I have left is about 90 minutes of hand-sewing and some meticulous pressing to do. I did have to hand wash the lining to get some tracing marks out.

An extremely well-camouflaged zipper is set in royal blue satin. You can see at least 3 tiny snaps. The white cotton underlining is under the open zipper.

The same part of the skirt, but zipped and snapped. If you examine it carefully, you may see a couple glints of metal through the multicolored lace. Maybe.

Back to #StateFairSewing instead of tech ranting! I have sewn the back seam (twice), and I'm getting the lace arranged across it.

Tonight's #StateFairSewing. I fixed my mistake from last night, and got the lace attached. I think I may be almost ready to put in the back seam.

There are three darts visible at the top of the skirt. The point of the picture is that there is a wrinkle/pleat caused by tacking the lace to the wrong place on the other side of the skirt.

Curses! I managed to introduce a problem, which I detected when I turned it over. Well, seems like a tomorrow problem.

A multicolored lace is laid across a royal blue satin. The main color of the lace is white. Two gold-eye sewing needles are posed in the center of the image, one threaded with royal blue, the other with white.

Tonight's #StateFairSewing. I'm still piecing the lace together over the darts. I have decided that the way to do this with minimal frustration is to have two needles going simultaneously, one with blue thread, and one with white.

A colorful lace is draped over a royal blue satin. Both are set on something rounded underneath them. 2 dozen very fine pins are stuck into the lace to mark one of the lace's edges.

Today's #StateFairSewing was sewing the darts and side seams. Now for the really tricky part: cutting the lace very carefully and fussily to shape it kind of like the darts.

A yellow and purple quilt is sandwiched in a round frame. Some arches are quilted in dark purple variegated thread. Longer curved lines are quilted in a pale yellow that matches the background fabric.

I put in 2 more lines to attach the lace to the skirt. Now I am on a part where I get to machine sew! 8 darts and 2 foot-long seams. That was the #StateFairSewing v. exciting.

But I can’t do that and watch Le Tour. So it was time for more quilting!

A multicolored lace is attached to a royal blue satin. My hand is indicating how far up the skirt I’ve basted - about 12 inches/30 cm. You can’t see any of the basting stitches.

Tonight’s #StateFairSewing:
- finished attaching the lace at the bottom hem
- got about halfway through basting the lace to the skirt for the next part

When I get up to the point where I do the side seams, I do that and the darts, then baste on the remaining lace while zhuzhing everything.

The right side of the fabric (outside of the skirt) does not have any visible stitching. The inside shows a catchstitch worked in blue thread. The raw hem has a few thrads showing, but looks relatively tidy.

A white guipure lace in a daisy pattern is overprinted with a multicolored garden floral.

And that step is done! I used Japanese basting cotton, and yellow is the color I picked ages ago as most likely to contrast.
