We’ve reached another milestone!

When a baby decides they will eat on you, it’s definitely a sign they’re comfortable with you 🫶🏻

This is Harald. Erik won’t be far behind. He’s a lot more comfortable being handled now and has even had an unscheduled play on the floor 😅

Today I was able to pick up Harald for the first time. Duprasi gerbils can take a while to tame, but he is getting much more used to hümins and is starting to tolerate us 🥰

They’re still only 9 weeks old, but it won’t be long now til they’re playing with us!

We are looking into the wonderful home of Erik and Harald. They are still very small, mouse sized and have grey blonde hair with white bellies, little pink pointy noses and round pink ears. They are as if a dwarf hamster had a baby with a gerbil. The enclosure they are in looks very natural. Behind them we can see a live edge hollow log to hide in. The floor is covered in natural substrate, mostly hemp and cedar wood, but with bits of soil they have kicked around from their diggy patch. Throughout the enclosure are natural grasses and wheat stalks, still with green ears attached, giving a splash of colour and more things to play with. They both look extremely cute!

Erik and Harald are out to play. For those of you who’ve never seen a baby Duprasi Gerbil, well this is them 😁

A close up of Erik’s face. As a Duprasi gerbil, he has a triangular face, a little more like a fox or a womble than a normal Mongolian gerbil. Most importantly though, he has slightly forward facing eyes. We think this if for hunting bugs in the wild. Donate famous for staring you down and you’re never quite sure if the look is one of adoration or they’re wondering which vein to open when they attack.

Aaaaaand there it is. The face of a stone cold killer. Even at seven weeks old and as cute as he and his brother are, little Erik already knows how to stare down and instil fear in the enemy.
