And #StephenHsu will not stop distorting the concept of #academicfreedom for his own purposes. He ends his own resignation announcement with this sentence: "The fight to defend Academic Freedom on campus is only beginning."
It is a fight alright....
Anyone who abuses their power like #StephenHsu did and does, anyone who--while acting as uni administrator!--distorts foundational concepts like #academicfreedom to make them serve in their personal favour, needs to be removed from that position. 5/
"Those are the words of someone hoping to use his power to silence those who dare oppose him. And in his blog announcement when #StephenHsu claims to stand for freedom of inquiry: those are the words of a hypocrite." 3/
"#StephenHsu *must* know that administrators do *not* have academic freedom."
"And, *any* claim Hsu might have had to freedom of inquiry ended the moment he threatened legal action against his critics on June 15." 2/
"#StephenHsu continues to refuse to address the major concerns about his behavior. Hsu’s announcement on his blog obscures the issues when he writes: 'I do not agree with his decision, as serious issues of Academic Freedom and Freedom of Inquiry are at stake.'" 1/...
"#StephenHsu has betrayed the mission and values of Michigan State University. If he remains in his current position, then the leadership of Michigan State University has betrayed those same values." @michiganstateu
Very big question:
Why is #StephenHsu, VP Research & Innovation, thinking that a heap of other people's letters, letters which do not even mention his alignment with racist and white supremacist positions, can defend his alignment with racist and white supremacist positions?
"#StephenHsu, of course, has not tried to explain or apologize and...he has ignored this entire, awful thing. So have the letters of his defense. Whoever is soliciting those letters for Hsu...is lying by omission. None of them, save that of Hsu’s podcast co-host, address Unz."
And then imagine #StephenHsu telling the Holocaust scholars at his university that he "is the real victim in all this because promoting someone who calls their scholarship a lie and part of a vast Jewish conspiracy is part of 'free inquiry.'"
#FireStephenHsu, @michiganstateu.
"Imagine #StephenHsu doing this against the images of the bodies stacked high...the children’s faces as they were marched from their homes. Imagine him telling them that promoting a man who denies all this makes sense because he made a lot of money and...has an IQ of 214."
"Imagine #StephenHsu explaining to Holocaust scholars how giving a Holocaust denier platform means Hsu is qualified to judge their research, to have a role in their funding, to have a role in promoting & tenuring them. Imagine him in the room with them telling them these things."
"On 27 August 2018, Ron Unz published a long essay in his 'American Pravda' column endorsing Holocaust denial."
"On 16 May 2019, #StephenHsu hosted his friend Ron Unz on his podcast holding him out as a brilliant person & allowing Unz to promote his 'American Pravda' column..."...
