Thanks @richardglover1.bsky.social for a great story at #StoryClub last night. Your lovely wife’s story was just as hilarious too. Well done. 😊🤞🦋
Red cover of the Vintage Classics Tolstoy collection, The Death of Ivan Ilyich & Other Stories
G’day Womble! Sure I’m not the only subscriber to George Saunders’s #StoryClub that’s making their measured way through Tolstoy’s short story/ novella “The Death of Ivan Ilyich”
The prompt said write “a horror story dealing with time travel.” I pictured this married guy tinkering in his garage, finally showing his wife what he’s been working on…

Out of order responses while I delay deciding on the last answer 😅...
2. I thought the world was so well delivered- I loved the windows too, but also in general the slow reveal of things like being underground was really skilfully done

Belated discussion questions for this week's #storyclub:
1. Do you think Jakey made the right choice, not turning off the fence?
2. The author created a pretty vivid setting for this story. What was your favorite world detail?
3. Unserious question: what are your favorite sandwich makings?
I'm in Boston for work meetings (and freezing temps 🥶) this week, but hoping to read this short #storyclub pick Saturday at the airport and get a discussion post going then!
Our second week's short #storyclub pick / 2024 Locus nominee is “Window Boy“, by Thomas Ha published in Clarkesworld 8/23. 🪐📚💙
We'll post some discussion questions later this week, but feel free to leave to your one post review in the thread below!
I enjoyed this. Quietly heartwarming with a lovely first line and end, full of the unresolved questions that life brings with it. I wonder (if I'm being supercritical) if it needed the aliens so explicitly? A layer of ambiguity around the family tree might have been interesting? 🖤 #storyclub

When I posted these questions to start a conversation on the #storyclub pick, I had absolutely NO ulterior motives about obtaining cookie recipes whatsoever. 😏
Our first #storyclub discussion thread 🧵!
We won't ever ask for star rating for any #shortstory pick (those ratings give us anxiety), but in an overall sense -- did you dislike, like or love this story?
Elaborate in a one post review reply here. 💙📚🪐
Just posted the first short #storyclub read -- I am hopeful this could be a fun low commitment way to meet fellow readers and new-to-me authors!

The rules for a #storyclub read are that it
1) be something available to read for free online (but patronage of any / all the excellent magazines we'll be reading from is encouraged!)
2) have a #fantasy #scifi or #horror element
Please DM this account with info to nominate a future story club pick!
We'll be starting with the 2024 Locus Award Finalists for short story (link below) this week, but suggestions are very welcomed and encouraged for future reads!!
