The Electoral Problem for Democrats: It's the Neoliberalism, Stupid In the 2024 contest between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, voters rejected the status quo — as our polls and focus groups warned would happen.

#WilfulBlindness morphed into #StrategicIgnorance and now it's
#PeakDenialism

And on so many fronts including
Public health
Biodiversity/ climate
Genocide
Fascism

We need to join the dots. The solutions aren't going to come top down.

"It’s February 2025. Five federal officers knock on your door.

When you open it, one of them states plainly: “Good morning. You’ve been declared a terrorist by the United States government under U.S. Code 9495-9495.”

Luckily, they add, “You have three months to prove without a doubt that you are not a terrorist. Good luck.”

They cuff you and lead you to a black SUV. Your family and neighbors are all watching in shock. One of the officers pauses, looks around menacingly, and declares loudly to all the silent observers:

“This person has been found to be a terrorist by the United States government. You are all safe now. Don’t try anything stupid or you will be declared a terrorist, too.”

As they shove you roughly into the vehicle (making sure to bang your head on the doorway), your voice comes back to your throat. You manage to scream out,

“Why?! Why are you arresting me?! Why are you accusing me of being a terrorist? I didn’t do anything! What did I do? What evidence do you have against me?! I want to call my lawyer!”

The fed in the drivers seat looks in the rear view mirror and says quietly but firmly,

“We are declaring you a terrorist — because we are declaring you a terrorist.”

(contd)

He turns away from you and starts the engine. The officer in the passenger seat takes out a mini-paper shredder, and shreds your passport, drivers license, birth certificate, and credit cards. As you watch, the goon next to you in the back takes out a laptop and deletes your personal website, email account, and social media profiles. You have been deleted.

As the three officers drive you off in the SUV, the other two have stayed at your home. They change the locks on all the doors and throw your stuff on the sidewalk. Then they visit your bank, let them know you have been found by the government to be a terrorist, and they sieze your bank accounts, retirement savings, and all other assets. Now it all belongs to the Trump administration.

This process is what H.R. 9495 — a bill passed by the MAGA Republican majority in our House of Representatives this morning — could allow the government to do to you.

Except, in the case of this bill, the “you” is not an individual American, but an American nonprofit organization. Any organization. It could be a church, college, community group, advocacy group, the ACLU or the NRA, human services agency, food pantry, etc.

And instead of taking an individual’s home and assets, this bill would strip organizations of their legal tax exempt status and take their assets — money given via donations, grants, contracts, and fees from services provided.

Instead of your family and neighbors, this bill would silence the American people by threatening our civic organizations — one of the exceptional traits of American life since our beginnings.

America cannot let this bill proceed. Speak out now so we can speak out later! With courage in the face of fear. With non-violent resistance in the face of violence against our rights.

100% right Roger!
#WilfulBlindness or #StrategicIgnorance will - probably sooner than later - result in a complete unravelling of all what we love.
And this is true even amongst those who care.
I've been v disappointed to see that many US NGO contacts assume that HR9495 won't be used against them.
