Right in time for the visit of Princess Akiko of Mikasa of Japan, the find of a human sculpture at #GöbekliTepe, incorporated into the base of a wall between monumental buildings B and D, has been announced:

In 1996 a breathtaking discovery was announced from #Glauberg in Hesse, Germany: The sandstone stele of an #IronAge warrior (5th century BCE) - coming with some fascinating little details. Fascinating enough for a little #SundayArchaeology thread. 🏺😉

Here's a #SundayArchaeology-#SketchbookSunday tea break combo with a nice couple of so-called #HelwanPoints from Göbekli Tepe, SE Turkey - a characteristic type of early #Neolithic Levantine #ProjectilePoints named after the eponymous late Epipaleolithic layers at Helwan, Egypt.
#SundayArchaeology: #Neolithic #KarahanTepe in SE Turkey, one of the other sites w/ characteristic T-shaped pillars in the region changed quite a bit since my first visit there in 2008 (picture above) in the course of recent excavations (picture below, from virtual online tour).
