the dog is up on a massive redwood log, grinning and immensely pleased with himself
the path leads into a patch of forest marked by burned trees and open spaces where undergrowth used to be dense
7+ miles up and over a ridgeline today, through one area that was recently logged & another recently burned (in controlled fashion). saw this garter snake, a chipmunk, various butterflies & lizards and a young mountain lion!
