To the left and right, tall arched stained glass windows and overhead, stretching into the distance, the arched and vaulted ceiling in intricately carved stonework. The pipes of the organ are visible at the far end.
Couldn't leave #SundayPixArches day without some ecclesiastical arches! I have 100s of pix, but here is King's College Chapel, Cambridge.
Look at this beauty

A Nice square with odd chequered paving and illuminated figures on poles. My wife is walking away towards the far side of the square and the illuminated arched colonnades. Projected onto the buildings: I love Nice. Fair enough.
Ooh… I think I have a Nice one #SundayPixArches

It picture of the big stone arch.. It was part of building once, but people killed it long ago and so now it mostly dead inside. It just bits left like ribs and bones and it do quiet things alone. The bones is black like they been built of darkness and in the archway, stones look out and seem bit shocked, big cloud have swallowed most the world. Troop stand inside the building ghost and wonder what the stones seen 🌿

A series of stone archways built in the round to form the outside of an amphitheatre. Some tree branches overhang the photo in the foreground.
Here's another for #SundayPixArches Verona amphitheater, earlier this year.
Can't stir myself to join in but enjoying seeing all you #SundayPixArches
Series of high sandstone arches, retreating into the distance and curving away to the right. The picture has a blurred effect of motion towards a central point.
Picture of a broad, underground tunnel with deep shadows between the four pools of light from unseen ceiling skylights that lead down the tunnel. The walls are large, blocks of sandstone and you can see the stone arches going down the tunnel, leading to what is probably a wide arched doorway, but it is lost in the shadows.
Wasn't sure which picture to post for #SundayPixArches so you lucky people are getting two. Both from the Roman ampitheatre in El Jem in Tunisia taken in 2015.

Strictly magic arches
An ancient monument in Syria that was destroyed has been recreated using 3D printing technology, and was put on display in London's Trafalgar Square. The original arch was built by the Romans in the city of Palmyra 2,000 years ago.
