2006: Super Mario Bros. Z As the Internet became a larger part of my media consumption, my friends and I would gather around a computer to watch Flash animations on various websites. Of all the ones I’ve seen, this one stands out the most, being a bridge between sprite animation and anime fight sequences, all things my friend group enjoyed. Perhaps it bit off more than it could chew in the end, but the ambition is something I appreciate. In a way, this seeded the idea of making content for an online audience. A new avenue was revealing itself to me, though I wasn’t quite ready to take it. Honorable Mentions: Flushed Away, Fun Home

Ultimetal, the main antagonist of my take on Super Mario Brothers Z. From top to bottom: Head: Sleek and pointy. Blue on top and grey on his mouthless muzzle. Black sclera with a single glowing red iris. Torso: Blue with white accents. A red, downward-pointing triangle in the center of his chest. Rounded shoulder pads. His stomach area gives way to a grey, segmented, tube-like structure vaguely resembling a spinal cord. His pelvis then returns to the blue & white. Arms: Upper arms are also grey tubes, forearms flare out into blue/white gauntlets that end abruptly at the wrist, creating a cup-like shape, those cups contain his hands, large and grey with segmented digits. Legs: Like the arms, upper part is grey tubes, lower is a blue/white cup. His feet resemble Sonic's shoes, large and coming to a point in the front, red with a white stripe across the middle.
Ultimetal having used four of the seven Chaos Emeralds to become more powerful and alter his appearance. He is now golden with light gold accents instead of blue/white. His upper torso is wider and his shoulder pads curve upward. The grey parts of his limbs are bulkier and have more definition, looking like human musculature, but still have segmentation lines across them. His elbows and shoulders now have grey spikes sticking out of them. The four Emeralds are embedded into his four limbs. The blue one in the arm on your left, red on the right. The pink one in the leg on your left, yellow on the right. His eyepiece now has a red sclera, and he has multiple thin white rings in a pattern within them.
The same as the the previous image, but now surrounded in a golden aura. His entire body is now various shades of gold/orange except for the Chaos Emeralds.
A side view of the two forms as well as the bottom of his feet. His head is very sleek, each part flowing into another. The colored part looks to be a single piece of metal fitted around the grey parts. His feet have three segments, each one has an exhaust hole, he uses these to fly like a rocket.
"Looks like Doc made a new Metal Sonic!"
"No. There is only one Sonic. I could never have beaten you at your own game. Now, I play by my own rules. You may call me, Ultimetal!"

The straight man of the group, stoic to the point of being unsettling. In contrast, he wields elemental energies to rain destruction upon opponents, using his halberd more like a magical staff. He still considers himself quite handsome.

Getting upgraded into Axem X made her even more of a diva. She prefers to avoid direct confrontation, lest her fashion be tarnished, instead she serves as the field medic, repairing the other members. When confronted, she retreats in a cloud of blinding glitter.

He looks similar to Red, but a black outfit instead of red, his helmet has metal spikes resembling a mohawk, wearing triangular sunglasses, and he uses two one-handed axes. The "Cool One" of the Axem Rangers X. He tries to act unbothered, but gets riled up easily in the midst of battle. He makes use of explosives to disorient opponents and close in with his twin hatchets. His sunglasses are an expensive custom order.
