I got interviewed recently for @popversesays.bsky.social regarding the #SupermanReadthrough, and it’s online now! Which is great timing with the movie!

#SupermanReadthrough
Was interviewed by @popversesays.bsky.social today about the #SupermanReadthrough, which was very cool. The project has been a part of my life for over a decade and a half, and it was very fun to take a trip down memory lane about the highs and lows of the experience. So that's coming soon.
Gonna start this series tonight for the #SupermanReadthrough. I’ve never read it before.
Bruh.
Just search #SupermanReadthrough to get a tiny slice of the 60-plus years of Superman comic books I have read. And not that it has to be a contest, but I bet dollars it's more than you.

Comic 197: JLX (1996)
Of the four Amalgams I read, this was the only struggle to finish. Didn’t feel much at all like a League book and more like the less amazing aspects of 90s X-books. Super Soldier has a minor appearance, so I guess this is #SupermanReadthrough on a technicality.

Comic 196: Spider-Boy (1996)

Looked forward to this Amalgam the most, and it was fine. Basically Spider-Man in a Superboy context, but with a LOT of other randomly mishmashed character concepts.

Comic 194: Super Soldier (1996)

My first Amalgam, and turned out to be my favorite. Nice balance of Superman and Captain America concepts and a very fun read.

I really enjoy this super boy. The character in the book. The adolescent horn dog personality is fun, just a little bit too constant. The problem is that all of his paramours are over 18 but he is in high school.

Lois has called off the engagement. I know some have problems with this storyline.
I’ve never read this before, but I will be soon!

Comic 141: Steel 25 (1996)

This book was at its best when the city crime and the family members were at the core of the story. We do have some family drama here, but I have not been enjoying it nearly as much for some time.

Lois teams up with Black Canary (and Oracle but Lois doesn’t know that). The Birds are still a very new concept at this point.

Plastic Man helps against a couple bored rich robot-wielding siblings who are just out for Superman’s cape.
I read through all of those during that part of my #SupermanReadthrough (cuz the Fourth World is kinda a Super spinoff in my mind) and Mister Miracle was the strongest title of the lot for me.

Comic 102: Marvel versus DC 2 (1996)

The art is great, and the writing is fun, which makes up for the exposition of the reason behind everything being a little bit silly. Having a great time reading this for the first time, though!
I lost some ground in the #SupermanReadthrough in the back half of last year. But I am once again caught up to comics that were released exactly 29 years ago this week. With at least one Super comic or episode each day, hopefully I’ll continue to make progress.

Team-up month continues! Lois is realizing that she’s overreacting to recent events with Lori’s return and the Joker poisoning her. And she’s feeling good about where she stands for Clark.

Comic 75: Action Comics 719 (1996)

Joker poisons Lois. She’s going to die unless Superman uses the same poison on the Joker, killing him for the antidote his blood will generate. Kill the Joker or Lois dies.

Comic 66: Steel 24 (1996) #SupermanReadthrough
Steel is a weird book right now. All the drama is rooted in plot and action developments instead of in character, so I’m just kinda coasting with it.

Comic 60: Adventures of Superman 532 (1996) #SupermanReadthrough
First Superbook of 1996, and Lori Lemaris is back! And let’s just say Lois is less than pleased at this woman she’s never heard of showing up naked in Clark’s life…!

The Christmas mail issue for the year with a poignant if difficult story, followed by a rather surprise appearance on the last page!
