“Phoenix Rising from the Ashes” is completed. A best girlfriend, lost many years now from breast cancer, used to say she was like the Phoenix. She was fierce in her battle and had great heart. Here’s to Bena!

Ashley should be able to focus on her health, not on how to pay for her treatments. Please consider helping her.🙏🏻💙

Five years ago today I completed my last cancer treatment. Still cancer free

Also a reminder to all my LGBT brothers and sisters, get your HPV Vaccine. It can save you a world of pain later in life

I beat cancer, now nothing phases me, even the thought of more cancer. I can defeat anything. Normal is gone, but I'm still alive. My treatment caused bloodclots and weight loss. I started at a muscular 220, dropped to 160, and now finally back to pre-cancer weight

Cancer treatments are hard and exhausting. Winning the battle becomes your job, your whole existence. I went in for radiation every day for 3 months with chemo every third week. Blood tests every week. It beats you down, but you can win. Just don't give up

5 years cancer free, but... No sense of smell. My taste is about 30% of pretreatment. What I can taste, the flavor is off. Neck lymphedema causes my face to swell almost daily. 9 months for my throat damage to heal enough to swallow and get my feeding tube removed

Know the side effects of your treatment plan. Understand how radiation and chemo will affect your body. Cancer doctors tend to downplay the side effects, so do your own research. Chemo makes you sick, causes brain fog lasting for days. Radiation burns

Listen and talk to your doctors. Do what they say when they say. If you can't follow their orders, discuss it with them. If something feels off, and it will, talk to the nurses and docs about it. They know what you are going through and have seen it all before

Get a counselor and join a cancer support group. Exchanging thoughts with others in treatment helps. You are not alone. Depression is very normal, as are panic attacks, especially as your body reacts to treatment. Anxiety meds help. Ask your doc for a prescription

Study and understand your cancer. Read and watch everything you can. The more you know, the easier it is to face. The internet is your friend. Don't follow quack treatments. Radiation and chemo have come a long way over the past two decades. Knowledge is power

All I have is here and now. All I need to do is be here now...
I can't wait to see what my fellow cancer survivors come up with this weekend at @maggiescentres.bsky.social Forth Valley!

Second, do not wallow in self-pity. It's unbecoming and self-defeating. Do not let your cancer hide in the shadows or be whispered about. An open and honest dialog about your diagnosis and treatment is critical. Do not ever feel shame about your cancer

First and foremost, it's your battle. Lean on others, but you are the only one who can beat it. Wrap your head around that, live by it. If you don't fight, you die. Death may be the eventual outcome, but fight that beast every step until you can't go any further

June 2020, I went in for a routine tonsillectomy. Doc found a golf ball sized tumor behind my left tonsil. Stage 4 HPV+ Tonsil Cancer was the diagnosis. It had spread to 3 lymph nodes on the left side of my neck and 2 on the right. Here's a series on what I learned

As an adult, I have never been able to sit with my legs crossed, my thighs were too thick for that position.

Now that my legs are noodle size, I noticed I was sitting like that last night and it kind of freaked me out.

I think that makes me a thespian now
