Every late winter, starved of colour and drawn to the boggy hollow where I might find a blue and white sky reflected in water, I find myself noticing anew this old silver birch, with its juxtaposition of rust- and green-coloured lichens!
Just two weeks more of winter...

The pond is finally melting and our entire flock survived the brutal winter. We are officially on goose egg watch starting today. Time for mud and happy ducks.

Rather lovely in the woods today, with the sun peeking out now and then. #woodland #SurvivingWinter
Half way between the winter solstice and spring equinox, some optimistic folk would say we are at the beginning of spring!
And I have to admit that, despite the cloudy sky, things are beginning to brighten in the woods today. #woodland #SurvivingWinter
Loved the sun catching the edges of these tree trunks today. #woodland #SurvivingWinter

I am so proud of myself. I didn’t immediately crawl into bed when I got home from work.
I did a few Important Tasks.
Then I fought against the cold and darkness to start a real dinner.
I feel like progress has been made.

It’s been a dark January in so many ways, really need the love of February, buy flowers, look at nature, feel the Sun and hug a loved one #survivingwinter

This year vs. last year
More food this year, last year was more decorative.
My personal tips (in order of necessity):
- Wool hats
- Leather gloves
- Scarves
- Ear muffs!!!! Even dinky ones are better than nothing
- Rechargeable hand warmers
- Good water-proof winter shoes/boots
