The people portrayed are not acting "like their parents," they're acting like people who have Asperger's or are in some other way non-neurotypical - who don't grok social cues.
Not entertaining, not at all funny, and certainly not making Progressive an attractive company

Many of Progressive's TV ads are funny/entertaining, but one campaign infuriates me - makes me both want to throw the TV through the window and to NEVER do business with Progressive. It's the one with "Dr Rick" whose job it is to help people who are "becoming their parents"
