She was outgoing, resilient, and generous. She was 29 years old, transgender, and lived in Cleveland, Ohio. She loved Nicki Minaj and making people laugh. She had a family who loved her. She made a living doing sex work. On Feb 9th, 2025 a 28 year old man targeted 33 Black, cis & transgender sex workers by telephone for a date. He and Tahiry agreed to meet. They met outside his apartment where they had an argument and the man pulled out a gun and shot Tahiry in the right side of her head, ending her life. In the 12 months ending with September 2024, 350 trans and gender diverse people were reported murdered. 94% were trans women; 93% were Black or Brown; 46% were sex workers.
