I feel like an underrated research skill for those who research with young and middle-grade learners is the ability to wink.

It can help let a kiddo know you see them, that you share their joke, or to even redirect their attention during a little-too-long museum discussion. 😉

We then gathered our belongings and put our chairs for the day as we departed for the day with our heads filled with a few new facts and even more new “wonderings” that I’m sure we will seek the answers to tomorrow!

After a quick lunch (& fun/ny debates re: 👍🏻 or 👎🏻 that 🌭 = 🥪 & about whether 🥪 taste better if cut into 🟫 or 🔺), we made our way to a docent-led lesson on MI metals & minerals that included some hands-on engagement.

A highlight for many of these smartie 3rd graders on our quick tour of the space was, of course, the one room schoolhouse/classroom!

Not only was the idea of the space new, but EVERYONE wanted to see inside the piano & NOBODY could read “A big black bug…” with ease AND speed!

After trudging through the snow, gasping at the living trees that greet all visitors who walk through the MI History Center doors, & dropping our coats & lunches in our learning lab room, we hopped on “the biggest elevator” of more than one kids’ life to tour the space…

I was super tired when the kiddos boarded the bus back to school from the MI History Center (at only 1:45!) and was def wishing for a nap after a fun first day of learning with the #BigHistoryLesson

1. I legitimately did not fall asleep until 1:30 AM

2. I also did not have a deep sleep because I was worried I’d miss my alarm

3. I DID wake up just before my alarm (see 2 🙃)

4. I was wide awake for the 1st day of the field trip, BUT…
