“Kamaile” In honor of Kauaʻi, this mele hoʻoipoipo celebrates Kamaile, a sacred mountain in the northern district of Haleleʻa. Romance is depicted between the mauna and her lover, a manu entrusted to protect the ʻāina that sustains him. The wind, carrying both the mountain’s voice and her companion’s wings, illustrates how pilina is a lei woven by unseen hands, yet it endures as kuleana shared between partners.
