With supposedly perished beloved characters who survive(but not everyone😢), unvarnished cruelty of war, horrendous actions of heroes & honour of evil men, I devoured this 752pg high octane thrilling book
The Turn of the Screw: great vibes, but the “is it ghosts or is she losing it” loop wore thin for me.

I then finished A Mother's Guide to the Apocalypse by Hollie Overton. This fulfilled Prompt 09 for #the52bookclub2026 challenge: Featuring a Natural Disaster. I was highly enjoying this book, until the final act climax and epilogue. From that point on, everything felt too pat and neat.

Ope, time to catch up on my reading! Early last week, I finished Cannibalism: A Perfectly Natural History by Bill Schutt. This fulfilled Prompt 08 for the #the52bookclub2026 challenge: A Three Syllable Word in the Title.
This was a very engaging look at the subject.

The movie adaptation takes almost every one of the book’s flaws and solves them. So what’s left in the original book is almost a different story, and a far inferior one. I wanted to love it but didn’t.

I was completely invested in Sadie, Sam & Marx. I ached, smiled, & worried with them. Their love, mistakes, traumas, Macbeth's soliloquy towards the end (I wept). Wonderful! Bravo!

The beginning is a mess, I almost DNF. I recommend you read chap 1 then skip to chap 8. After that it’s the cozy romantasy you’re expecting with characters you actually care about and it’s not bad!
