This duology was definitely not as good as the original trilogy. There was no "main villain" until the last fourth of the book and then he wasn't interesting at all. There wasn't really any magic. The "little people can save the world" trope was used again, there just wasn't a whole lot to like here other than Samwise ... I mean Cotton. All that said, I am going to give the series at least one more try. I've read Dragondoom and it was a lot more recently than the others. I remember liking it a lot. I'll probably read "The Eye of the Hunter" because I have that one and it's the next book in chronological order.
