Cover of the favorite girl by Monica Arya. "You don't want to be chosen as..." Cover is a tan woman with white hair, hat, and dress. She has sunglasses on that say "A thriller"
Repetitive phrases: - "He rolled his lips together" "my palms grew moist" "Pinching my lips to the side" Repetitive internal dialogue: - "Maybe that's why I loved to read so much. I could escape my reality and live a thousand lives through the pages and words of others. Thanks to the library, I could actually have a warm place to read. I could be anyone and anything. I could be loved. I could explore. I could feel..." "But it wasn't just because this was my last chance at having a steady income and place to live; it was also because my intuition kept telling me to turn around and leave. Something was off, the feeling was palpable. Four years ago, when I was taken and held in the small room, I developed a very strong sense of intuition. It was the way I
could finally fall asleep without being terrified; it was the way I knew what was coming. Today, everything felt the way it does before a storm and you've left your umbrella at home. You know something bad is coming and you also know you're unprepared, but you still go." over explaining: easily assumed by the context but then the MC has to say it in her internal dialogue too Odd phrasing: - "peeling the gloves and cardigan on..." "He grew so close to me that his..." The MC: - She was constantly breaking rules and told she would die because of it but literally not a damn thing happened to her
Inconsistencies in at least two character histories and at least one physical description Oh, once she got in the house and realized what was happening, everything got very boring. It was mostly just her doing stupid shit and being told she would die because of it but not even getting a slap on the wrist. She doesn't experience any of the uncomfortable shit that's happening. She just gets told about it and sees the most basic version of what's going on.
This was bullshit. I hate that I read as much as I did. DNF at 63% I could say sooooo much more about it, but I won't spoil it...even though it's stupid...whatever.
