The least we can do as a society is to SEE #TheNewFaceOfCRC and
HEAR their stories,
so we can keep #colorectalcancer as a potential possibility in our collective memory...
so that a young, otherwise healthy person with GI symptoms can get the timely help that they need.

#TheNewFaceOfCRC is the young person in the prime of their life, dealing with a cancer-that-cannot-be-named,
in the middle of everything else a young person has to deal with—
raising a family,
chasing a career,
figuring out their place in the world.

I have been posting stories of young people diagnosed with #colorectalcancer
As you can see, #TheNewFaceOfCRC is not the old fart plopped in front of the TV…

#TheNewFaceOfCRC doesn’t find “rectal” offensive…
They find the years of misdiagnosis offensive.
They find the repeated “no, you are too young for #colorectalcancer” offensive…
They find the multiple trips to the ER with no answers offensive

I asked a Midwest #coloncancer support group, why they use “colon” cancer support, when everyone else uses the word “colorectal??”.
They told me.."Because people may find the word “rectal” offensive".. WTF??

In my 2 years being a rectal cancer survivor, I’ve had people talk about my “disease”..
They couldn’t bring themselves to say “rectal cancer.”
Let us stop being queasy about body parts….

People seem ashamed to say they have/ are diagnosed with/survived #colorectalcancer.
Somehow it is a shameful thing…

We cannot raise awareness about CRC if we can only whisper *colorectal*
