2️⃣ As a member of #TheSandPebbles Chowder & Munching Society, co-star #RichardCrenna ended up publishing a #cookbook for a Japanese-style charcoal stove branded Casa-Q. In the foreword, he reminisces about #food served up by "this little man who has a shop on the Teh Hwei Street in #Taipei [台北市德惠街]."

Jake Holman became one of McQueen's most enduring film characters. He knew the role would change his life. At the world premiere of #TheSandPebbles in NYC, he whispered to wife Neile:

Yet, when #TheSandPebbles premiered worldwide to wide acclaim in 1966, it was banned in #Taiwan by Chiang Kai-shek. He thought the movie unflattering for portraying Americans as above Chinese law, and unfairly depicting the 1926 Northern Expedition, which was commanded by the generalissimo himself.
