There are no "people of Ukraine" any more than "people of Yugoslavia". #TheUkraine is just inland plains Poland & Russia contested.
That is a correct geographic term, the people #Ruthenian. Prior to German short lived puppet state 1917-18 #theUkraine was universally and geographically the area NORTH of the Black Sea coast and NOT including any of it. This was taken by Russia proper 1780s from Crimean Tatars, Ottoman allies.
