On a glorious warm Saturday evening on #ThelnethamFen Black bog-rush (Schoenus nigricans) gives structure to the orchid-valerian display, with Great Burnet (Sanguisorba officinalis) getting ready to flower & lots Peacock Butterfly caterpillars chomping nettles at the Fen edge 3/6
There are lovely Common Spotted Orchids (Dactylorhiza fuchsia) among the Southern Marsh Orchids at @suffolkwildlife #ThelnethamFen but the Early Marsh Orchids (D. incarnata) are nearly over & the Marsh Valerian (Valeriana dioica) is prettily setting seed. @Britnatureguide

Some characterful Alders & sculptural Marsh Thistles along the #LittleOuse at @LOHProject @SuffolkWildlife #ThelnethamFen & #Hinderclay Fen, plus Smooth Tare (Vicia tetrasperma). #Suffolk #30DaysWild #Wildflowerhour @Britnatureguide 6/9
At @LOHProject @SuffolkWildlife #ThelnethamFen yesterday, a rather cool, grey day, seemingly every thistle flower - Creeping (Cirsium arvense) & Marsh (C. palustre) - had bees packed on them sluggishly gorging. #thelnetham #suffolk #windmill #30DaysWild #Wildflowerhour 3/9
Wonderful displays at @LOHProject @SuffolkWildlife #ThelnethamFen of Skullcap (Scutellaria galericulata) & Marsh Lousewort (Pedicularis palustris), the latter providing a carpet of fern-liked leaves. #Suffolk #Wildflowerhour #30DaysWild @Britnatureguide

.@SuffolkWildlife #ThelnethamFen a joy, with stately Valerian, purple-lipped Yellow Rattle, more purple provided by Tufted Vetch and Woody Nightshade, with its hint ot exoticism. #WildflowerHour
.@SuffolkWildlife #ThelnethamFen - mown rather than grazed - looking gorgeous, though the main display of southern marsh orchids well over and barely a sqidge underfoot. Still a few Marsh Helleborines. Great burnet - a particular favourite - looking magnificent @ukorchid #Suffolk
