a female barn owl and her mate pictured in a nest box. This box is man mad and the base is sprinkled with some cedar shavings. The male faces the entry way and is a bit more light colored on his chest plumage. The female barn owl appears a little darker with more brownish speckles on her chest and a more pronounced frame around her facial disk. She is looking down at an egg she just laid. She’s pictured sideways at the very end of the box right at the back wall. She looks almost confused or surprised. These are wild animals and despite all precautions sadly clutches sometimes fail when the parent animals have their first clutch for example or the female loses her mate and has to abandon the clutch to hunt for food. We are hoping very much this clutch will flourish like the last in fall.
