Thyroid cancer is NOT a "good" cancer
When found early, thyroid cancer is usually treatable.
However, some thyroid cancers are aggressive and difficult to treat.
Even when treatable, thyroid cancer is life-disrupting, expensive, and stressful for us and our loved ones.
It also requires us to take daily medication for thyroid hormone replacement for the rest of our lives
For these and many other reasons, thyroid cancer is not a "good" cancer. No cancer is.

About Thyroid Cancer
• Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine cancer.
• It occurs in all age groups, mainly adults. It affects about three times as many women as men.
• There are several types— papillary, follicular, medullary, anaplastic, and variants.
• About 43,720 people, including 31,180 women and 12,540 men, will be diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2023 in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. About 1,150 women and 970 men (2,120 total) will die of thyroid cancer in 2023.
Signs to discuss with your physician
• You feel a lump in your neck, or your doctor may notice a nodule in your neck during a routine checkup. Most of these thyroid nodules are benign (noncancerous).
• Some people first notice lymph node swellings, fullness in the neck, voice changes, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.

I was originally diagnosed with follicular/Oncocytic Carcinoma. My endocrinologist did further research & WHO designated Oncocytic Carcinoma as its own cancer & not a subset of follicular in 2022. It’s rare, with only 2-3% of thyroid cancers being OC. #ThyroidCancerAwarenessMonth

Yes, it's real.
Thyroid cancer affects three times more women than men. Usually, it's treatable.
How to find it? The first step is a neck check.
It's that simple.
Next time you see your doctor, ask for a neck check. Remember, early detection saves lives.
So does prompt treatment plus lifelong follow-up.
And, if you or someone you know has thyroid cancer, free information and support services are as close as your phone or your computer.

I was asymptomatic (other than taking a lot of naps) & it was during my annual physical when my PCP found what ended up being a 4.3 cm tumor. I had an ultrasound 5 days later. I had to wait 3 months to see an endocrinologist.

Last September, I had my right thyroid removed. Once it was removed, I got confirmation that it was cancer. 34 days later, my left thyroid was removed & it was benign. I was officially declared cancer-free on Halloween.

Check everything every day to be on very safe side including your moles - some grow very fast e.g. #Melanoma plus no UV light such as lamps or sun beds as advised by the late, great Professor Martin Gore 😎
