‘WPA Camp, Larch Mountain Road, Mount Hood National Forest. WPA workers lived in a nearby tent city while building Timberline Lodge. United States Forest Service photograph. 1936. Timberline Lodge is six thousand feet up on the south slope of Mount Hood. According to WPA records, its building costs totaled $695,730 in 1936–38; 20 percent of the cost was for materials and the remainder for labor, 90 percent of which was from the WPA (the workers lived nearby in a tent city). Took a long weekend last week so I could go up to #timberlinelodge for a few days!!! I only recorded the first day, but the Mile (top route) was open, and I even got to take the Alpine trail straight down to the nearest town. Overall, a picture-perfect day!
