20. Meg Baird - Furling
Meg Baird's ethereal voice brings to mind Sandy Denny, and so does the lovely acoustic guitar work, especially on “Cross bay”.

20. Meg Baird - Furling
Beautiful folk with psychedelic touches (notably on the first track, that reminds a bit of the first part of Pink Floyd’s “Careful with that axe, Eugene”)

19. The Cryan’ Shames - A scratch in the sky
This is well exemplified in “The sailing ship”, a pretty far out track ending with a crazy bagpipe solo!

18. The New Colony Six - Colonization
“Hello lonely” is quieter than the other tracks, but illustrates the band’s talent for crafting nice melodies as well.

18. The New Colony Six - Colonization
Pop garage band from Chicago, The New Colony Six had a run of 4 albums from 1966 to 1969. This is their second, perhaps their best.

17. Karen Beth - The joys of life
Karen's voice evokes another Karen - Dalton, and this overlooked jewel deserves a place alongside Linda Perhacs or Sibylle Baier in the roster of exceptional female folk singers from the late 60s. It badly needs a vinyl reissue!

17. Karen Beth - The joys of life
Discovered thanks to @marionfaceb.bsky.social 😀. This is the first album by Karen Beth who shines on these primarily folk tracks (although the opening number, possibly for commercial appeal, leans more towards Nancy Sinatra-style pop).

16. Cressida - Cressida
The soft and dreamy “Down down” is as close as it gets to early post-Barrett Pink Floyd (think More and Obscured by Clouds).

16. Cressida - Cressida
Little known early prog band, Cressida released just two albums at the very beginning of the 70s and both are excellent. Peter Jennings' keyboards largely define their sound, which also weaves in elements of folk, psych, and jazz.

14. Jammë - Jammë
Produced by Mamas and Papas’ John Phillips and featuring wrecking crew’s Larry Knechtel, this badly needs a proper vinyl reissue, although 1970s copies are available for a decent price.

14. Jammë - Jammë
Based in California but with a distinctive English sound inspired by the late Beatles era, Jammë had such a circumvoluted history that this album is a bit of a miracle. Read here for more rateyourmusic.com/release/albu...

13. Cold Sun - Dark Shadows
Distorted sounds, fuzz guitars and droning autoharp define Cold Sun’s unique sound, and the 11 min “Ra-Ma” will take you to the other side. An essential for all psych rock lovers.

13. Cold Sun - Dark Shadows
Recorded in 1970 but only released in 1990, “Dark Shadows” is an album I first listened to 20 years ago (thank you SoulSeek 😉) but only bought in vinyl this year. Out-of-space, drug-infused, psych-rock from Texas.

12. Edwards Hand - Edwards Hand
The album opens with “Banjo pier” in which vocal harmonies and rich arrangements sets the scene for the rest of the record, a lost baroque pop nugget. It also includes “If I thought you’d ever changed your mind”, covered by Kathe Green.

12. Edwards Hand - Edwards Hand
Edwards Hand, a duo comprising Rod Edwards and Roger Hand, had a short-lived career that resulted in two albums of majestic baroque pop. This is their first that Sir George Martin produced while also working on the Beatles' White Album.

11. Eberhard Weber - The colours of Chloë
This track fills the entire B-side and explores a wide range of moods, featuring innovative rhythm patterns and a bass sound that occasionally calls to mind blaxploitation or '70s funk. Rainer Brüninghaus shines on the piano.
