In 2022, roughly half of traffic fatalities were unbelted. Seat belt compliance is pretty good, about 92%, but half of the deaths are from that 8% who defeat the safety measures. #trafficdeaths #safety #driving #darwin #autodarwinate

Speed safety cameras are very common in countries that are successfully reducing #TrafficDeaths using a #SafeSystem Approach
Really appreciate this new report by @visionzeronet.bsky.social and looking forward to their webinar on January 28th visionzeronetwork.org/upcoming-web...
I think it really says something that NHTSA's reporting of #TrafficDeaths by speed limit starts at "30 mph or less"
Slow speeds save lives
All 30 mph or less roads are grouped together because they produce so few deaths compared to higher speed ones

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Monday night, December 23, on C.H. James Parkway, west of Florence Road #CobbCounty #PowderSprings #PedestrianFatalities #TrafficDeaths
There's something deeply weird about an agency that puts the responsibility for #TrafficDeaths on the bad decisions of drivers to encourage drivers to "Drive like a Texan" while that means an average 12 deaths each day and at least one death every day for 24 years www.txdot.gov/about/newsro...
The other messaging we need to stop is the self congratulatory praise of reductions in #TrafficDeaths per vehicle miles traveled over long time periods
Yes, they've gone down since 1970
But, not that much since 2000 and a lot of it is due to more driving
It obscures what needs to be done
A very interesting read regarding how we can reduce road deaths.
Also makes the point that it should be experts and not politicians/public opinion that decides speed limits.
