the big thing about the Mario Galaxy movie for me is that I got to see the gang be great characters together
they're at the 'performing' stage of being close; they're past the awkwardness and clumsiness, and now they get to be comfortable with each other and express their dynamic #TribLikesStuff
Plus, despite everyone's worry, there's zero licensed pop songs in the Mario Galaxy movie,
there's not even any musical numbers at all (thank god)
is it a perfect movie? of course not
does every joke / antic land? also no,
but did I appreciate the movie? yes, on many levels really #TribLikesStuff
I really liked the Mario Galaxy movie
not only is it better than the first Mario movie, it also manages to *fix* some problems I had with the prequel
plus, it's got artistic SAUCE
They sometimes just keep the characters' mouths closed, and let the animation & visuals do the talking #TribLikesStuff
we had a double-feature of Project Hail Mary and Super Mario Galaxy Movie at the cinema today with my cousins (yes the two films showed back-to-back)
it was like having a 5-star gourmet meal followed by three scoops of sweet ice cream for dessert
different kinds of joys, still good #TribLikesStuff
Pokemon Pokopia and Project Hail Mary giving me a one-two punch of intimate stories of hope in a dying world, with cosmic-sized backdrops, within a month of each other
#TribLikesStuff
an official poster for Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, "Online in Cinemas, Coming Soon" the astronaut character is standing on top of a ship, holding on to a safety rope, while streaks of light fly by all around.
ummmm Project Hail Mary for Best Picture
this movie is pure cinema
and I love feeling so connected to a story I had no prior knowledge about, but now I wanna HUG this movie
I wanna kiss this movie on the cheek

The video above basically compares Twin Peaks with Mr. Beast
praising art that exercises our ability to think, feel uncomfy, wonder, question, and sit with our thoughts,
instead of overly easy, "content" that we barely notice when we're watching; in one ear and out the the other #TribLikesStuff
Jeffiot at it again with the slightly creepy video that's truly profoundly emotional, thoughtful, and deep!!

This video honestly makes me feel wonderful. I feel validated for loving art even if I don't grasp every aspect of it, for choosing art over...easy slop. youtu.be/4-dPd2_i6pg
I realized lately that I love when stories are welcoming to big changes as a form of improvement,
instead of viewing 'preserving the natural state of affairs' as the pinnacle of joy / happiness
It's an abstract feeling, but I can see it pop up in a lot of my favorites~

btw I binged all 8 available episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus today, for the first time
yeah I get why this series is so beloved
That's some incredibly creative, intriguing, affecting art
And I'm sure @garuthegiant.bsky.social will tell you all about our favorite characters

this POKOPIA VIDEO by the Chikorita queen herserlf cecilily !!
It does have SPOILERS for the story of Pokopia, but if you aren't interested in the game, or if you don't mind spoilers, it also just touches on the connection between Pokemon series & conservation #TribLikesStuff

one of my favorite things about K-Pop Demon Hunters dominating the awards for songwriting throughout awards season
is that it's Life reflecting Art,
because in the movie, 'Golden' is this smash worldwide hit, and they replicated that IRL, which not all musicals are able pull off #TribLikesStuff
still so happy that Sinners got its recognition not just from box office, not just from critics & audiences, but also from movie awards
my partner and I watched Sinners on the couch, while eating some South Asian fusion cuisine, and a double size tub of gelato, and it was incredible

Turning his head up from the photos, Saarlos exhaled and closed eyes. He sat like that for a few seconds, breathing in a steady rhythm. Upon slowly opening his eyes again, he locked stares with Detective Vidal, and spoke only six more words: “I'll have that coffee now, please.
I just experienced the *opposite* of cringing at your old works
over a decade ago, I was in creative writing classes in college
yesterday I found a lot of my old projects~
passages I long forgot by now
reading them now, not remembering exactly what I wrote, they're pretty great #TribLikesStuff
Happy 4-year anniversary to Everything Everywhere All At Once!
I watched EEAAO in early 2022, and it literally changed my life by giving me a blueprint for how to better handle my existentially anxious thoughts
Every friend I've shown this movie to has cried :3
I cried like a baby

Remembering a nice interaction I had with a delivery person
they were an older man who put pointy cat ears on their motorcycle helmet
I complimented the cat ears, and they smiled
I asked why he wears them, and he said: "wala lang, cute kasi" ('nothing much they're just cute')

Screenshot of a conversation. Taku sent a screenshot "Shiny Pokemon Battled: 2" then a shocked cat GIF. Taku says: "I missed one." Garu Dael replied: "oh no!!"
my older brother is playing through Pokemon Violet for the first time, and I asked him to send me updates
Today he sent me this
He had caught his first shiny earlier (Pawmi), but... apparently, he missed something
(I asked him if I could post it 'cause it gave me a good laugh xD)

Lumber Jack Camp from the Sly 2: Band of Thieves soundtrack is truly one of my favorite pieces of music of all time
not just video games, but any music
It 100% inspired me to try composing
more than nostalgia, it gives 10/10 vibes for cold wintery adventure~ #TribLikesStuff

yo I still have this hand-drawn fakemon book I made in 2006
this is 20 years old!! some of you following me are younger than my fakemon book!!
it seems I made 170 fake Pokemon in the Khamalion region, and the "game" is Pokemon Scarlet / Cerulean / Pine
I even made fake berries

A friend was talking about the Metal music, and it reminded me of this song that I love
Great lyrics, great emotion, catchy, memorable
despite it not being the genre of song I typically listen to #TribLikesStuff
I love the power in the words of 'LIBERATE' by the band Disturbed

Photo of the 'The Art of Zootopia 2' book, recently unpackaged on a bed, with bubble wrap and cardboard around.
-happy noises- <3 I couldn't find any local stores selling the Zootopia 2 artbook, so I bit the bullet and contacted an online shop that imports merch from Vietnam
so happy they're legit~ failure to deliver would've granted me a refund, BUT I'm glad I didn't need it!! :D

screenshot from the JuanFlix website, showing a still image from the film 'Cleaners': a high school student holds a watering can in a garden. The synopsis says: "Different students from a high school cleaners group each deal with different pressures of being clean and pure while also discovering that the world is dirty and superficial to begin with."
CLEANERS directed by Glenn Barit is one of the most unique films I've seen, and one of the most sincere & nostalgic portrayals of Filipino High School <3
instead of traditional film, the filmmakers photocopied frames and colored key parts with highlighters
The effect is amazing <3 #TribLikesStuff
JuanFlix was my streaming service of choice for Filipino films, but it shut down for maintenance for *MONTHS*
and it's back now!! and they have MORE movies!!
I'm so happy #TribLikesStuff
I discourage you from having your entire day ruined because you saw a post with hundred likes talking shit on your favorite video game
Your day would be fine if you brushed that off your shoulders, and remember that everyone's got their own preferences

It makes sense to me that a teen who kept screenshots of nice comments would grow up to make a hashtag of things that made him smile in daily life #TribLikesStuff
But yeah! apparently I stopped screenshotting in 2018, and I think that's good, perhaps the validation was starting to come from within
Tumblr comment screenshot: "i love your art its so cool"
I found a folder in my 2016-2018 hard drive where I apparently would screenshot some nice comments people said about my art
it was called: 'Folder - You Can Do It'
I dunno why "Folder" was in the title xD #TribLikesStuff
younger me wanted something to read through when he was feeling self-doubt
scene from 'Robot Dreams': Dog looks shocked at something offscreen
scene from 'Robot Dreams': a zoomed-in Pause/Play button on a cassette player
Entire movies can be great as a whole, but also specific scenes can stand out among the rest
and *this* scene from Robot Dreams is one of my favorites ever #TribLikesStuff
No Spoilers of course, but if you've seen the movie, you know where he's looking, the music, and why it's so emotional
