Day 2048 of Covid
Papa was a WWII Marine...VMF-218.
I went to several of his reunions.
One morning at breakfast an old Marine was describing the waitress's attributes.
He stuttered when he noticed me.
Couldn't find the right words.
Me: You mean her cups overflowth.

A stunning gouache painting on canvas of historic Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, circa 1775, depicted as the symbolic birthplace of the United States Marine Corps. The weathered brick and timber tavern sits along a narrow cobblestone alleyway, lanterns glowing warmly at the entrance as evening falls. A hand-painted wooden sign creaks above the doorway, and flickers of candlelight spill from the windows. Outside, a few Continental-era figures in tricorne hats and military coats gather near the entrance, their shadows stretching across the alley. In the distance, a faint silhouette of masts from docked ships rises above the rooftops, reminding of the nearby waterfront. The painting is richly detailed, with textured brushstrokes and vibrant gouache pigments capturing the glow of lantern light on brick, the sheen of rain-slicked cobblestones, and the timeless atmosphere of a colonial tavern. The overall mood is both historical and reverent, as though honoring the dawn of the Marine Corps tradition, making it suitable for a framed work of art.
