The Glassworker does for glass what Miyazaki does for food, echoing the hallmarks of anti-war anime with striking commitment. It inevitably emerges half-successful; its thematic promise fizzles, its pastiche ambitions often yield awkward results. An undeniable landmark, but still a start.
