Jesus was born a Jew in Roman-occupied Bethlehem. As a child, his family fled to Egypt as political refugees. After he returned, Jesus offered bread and wine to neighbors and strangers- as he preached a message of liberation from oppression and captivity. Jesus taught that love is the Greatest Commandment and practiced radical non-violence in defiance of the Roman Empire. He took sides, placing himself with those oppressed and living in poverty. Welcomed into Jerusalem by the Jewish people, he was put to death by the Roman Empire as a state criminal. Yet death could not contain him. A woman was the first to preach his story. This is the Jesus of Easter.
