Northern Sprinter 156401 tails classmate 156414 out of Hag Fold with a Sundays-only Southport service.
Tucked in between shipping containers and general detritus stands the unmistakable silhouette of Saab 35 Draken A-011, formerly of the Royal Danish Air Force.
A slightly better angle of the beleaguered and sadly wingless Draken. The aircraft is kept on private property so this is as close as one can get, but the public footpath alongside the yard provides enough of a vantage point that the aircraft is clearly visible.
A very overcrowded - and unsurprisingly too, given that trains are only two-hourly on a Sunday - 150224 leads 156422 into Hag Fold. It seems the 156 was having some mechanical difficulties - on the quick trip back into Manchester, the engine seemed to cut out on multiple occasions.
#UnleashTheDraken - it isn't every day you get to find a Danish fighter jet with Swedish origins in a storage yard! Viewed from a public footpath in Atherton is Saab 35 Draken A-011, along with the four Northern Sprinters which got me there and back.
Our Saab Draken fighter that's displayed inside our display Hangar 1, which has been with us since 1994.
Our Gazelle helicopter being moved around in Hangar 1 by our volunteers - a finely balanced exercise!
It's become a tradition that we post pictures of these two aircraft on #StPatricksDay

AR-107 was deactivated by the RDAF when it was delivered in 1994, this was part of the Acquisition Agreement.
#UnleashTheDraken is just a tag we've developed!
It still has a complete cockpit fit though!!
Good night everyone - some #NAMarrivals photos from when our Saab Draken was delivered to RAF Scampton in February 1994, before then being moved to our #GatewayAviationSite

We're slowly introducing our favourite tags here, and building a nice group of followers - hope this one is spotted!
#UnleashTheDraken a selection of pre & post acquisition photos from teh #NAMarchive of our #Draken AR-107
After I posted this, this morning it occurred to me that I hadn't seen @newarkairmuseum.bsky.social post #UnleashTheDraken lately
I've just checked back through their posts and apparently the last time was only 4 days ago
Must pay closer attention in future!
