The #VichyGQP ARE ChristoFascist. As I have said- left the party over Sexism and Racism in the 1990s. And they've been doubling down ever since. Neither of those things should be part of Conservatism.
I'm also an atheist, so always a bit different from some other conservatives.

Note the difference between a real conservative - I LIKE government Purity and Quality regulations - and whatever the #VichyGQP is peddling - Populist Reactionaries? - who seem to want to get rid of even that part of the government.
Civility is treating people like humans. The present #VichyGQP turn to populist reaction/proto-fascism is a move away from that. Not sure what you are talking about.
Conservatives, as a rule prefer the human stuff. That's just one reason why they have left the GOP in droves...

Reaganism had its faults- but it was WAY more progressive on a lot of fronts than the Present #VichyGQP. There were still a bit of Eisenhower in the party. Still a type of Conservatism. His mistake was letting the Christians in to the policy side of the party. Them, Karl Rove and Newt made this.
Actual conservatism is of course not just that.
Whatever they are doing in the #VichyGQP who pretty clearly abandoned conservatism a while ago is some sort of populist reactionism or proto-fascism.
You'll notice that pretty much ALL the conservatives have aligned against Trumpism too...
I really think people are using the term to mean Independent Voters. And it's a poor use of the term.
I'm Independent, in that I am former GOP and not a Dem. But I tend to vote with the Dems on almost everything now as the #VichyGQP are totally nuts.

What we need is for the #VichyGQP to return to actual conservatism. Get rid of the proto-fascists and the Putin ball lickers - get back to an actual philosophy with values. A real conservative party would be good for the country. This present insanity- less so. We need at least two sides.

No. It doesn't have to. I actually read a lot of history. Regular conservatism is an important part of the political spectrum. Gives us balance. Represent a legitimate world view- that many people have.

And yet- he left this GOP because it was too extreme for him. He happened to a traditional Conservative who was anti-choice. That might have been religious. MANY other Conservatives are like me- atheists.
