Mountain Forms #2 1925-27
Happy Birthday Victor Higgins 1884-1949
Mr. Higgins went to Chicago at 15 to study art & never returned to Shelbyville, Indiana, except as vistor & world reknown artist.

A scenic painting depicting a warm foreground covered in snow, the trees look like lace cylinders, the bushes are a warm yellow green.... and there is an orange bull with white patches in the bottom right corner. Behind the bull, there are two indigenous people dressed in white, each atop a horse. the background is almost filled with a mountain peak blackened with cloud shadow. Curtains of white-gray rain descend from the sky (making the foreground seem so much warmer and bright). Bits of ragged bright blue sky peek through the turbulent white gray clouds. the artist paints everything 'rounded', reducing the forms to what is essential while also adding lovely minimal texture through brushstrokes.
We're supposed to get snow tonight.
*sigh*
Anyway..... this is Victor Higgins' 'Spring Rains', 1924, from the Art Institute of Chicago's collection.
