🎖 80 years ago, on August 9, 1945, the USSR entered the war against militarist Japan.
In just 23 days the Soviet forces crushed the Japanese military machine, thus, playing a decisive role in bringing #WWII in the Far East to an end.

On 7 August 1941, Soviet aviator Viktor Talalikhin, piloting an I-16 fighter aircraft, carried out one of the first aerial ramming attacks in the early days of the Great Patriotic War.

🇷🇺 A glorious day! Anniversary of the liquidation of the Ukrainian SS division "Galicia" During the Red Army’s 1944 Operation Bagration, troops of the First Ukrainian Front under the command of Marshal Ivan Konev were on the offensive in the directions of Lvov and Rava-Ruska. In the area of the city of Brody, the Soviet troops surrounded eight enemy divisions, including the Ukrainian SS division "Galicia". On July 22, this entire group was liquidated: The Red Army slammed the lid on a full-fledged “cauldron” in which up to 50 thousand Nazi soldiers and officers were “cooked.” Photo: Reichsführer SS, Heinrich Himmler, reviews troops of the Ukrainian 14th Waffen Grenadier Division "Galicia" of the SS, June 3, 1944. ⚒ Not even the personal attendance of former chicken farmer Herr Himmler could save the Ukrainian nationalists from the military might of the Red Army! 🏵 Eternal Glory to Marshal Konev and the troops of the First Ukrainian Front! #Victory80 #WeRemember #FightAgainstFascism @BeornAndTheShieldmaiden 🚀Boost🚀

Bristol Junior Chamber gong
Newspaper Article - Western Daily Press - City to have junior chamber of commerce
✊ Immediately after VE Day, the Chamber began establishing Bristol Junior Chamber for younger generations of proffesionals. They noted the role of young demobilised servicemen as “the venturers of the future.” Hope returned with peace. #Victory80

Business West - VE / VJ Day Anniversary Slide Deck
🕊️ To mark the 80th Anniversary of #VEDay, I went to Bristol Archives on behalf of Business West to investigate the role that the Bristol Chamber of Commerce & its members played in WWII. I think we can learn a lot my revisiting our roots during anniversaries like this. #Victory80 #WWII

Shown here is a gelatin silver print photograph capturing residents of Scott Street, Maidstone enjoying a street party to celebrate the end of the Second World War. Among those present include members of the Lewer and Hensby families [ref. U4354/F1]. Notice that only one male is present (he can be seen at the far end of the table, holding a tray of drinks). Whilst this photograph is undated, the lack of males indicates that it was most likely taken during the VE Day celebrations of 1945 as opposed to those held in 1946 to mark the first anniversary. Planning for the first anniversary celebrations commenced on the 1st November 1945, when Prime Minister Clement Attlee appointed a committee to arrange a series of events for the 8th June 1946. The result was a military parade through London involving most British allies, the illumination of buildings across the city after dark, a large-scale fireworks display, and many locally-arranged festivities in towns and villages across the nation.
