About 45 years old, there could be a lot of reasons for this fault but as it turned out gold surface wasn't thick enough for the (pointy) contact. A bit of solder after cleaning the PCB did the job.

A HP16C calculator made in 1987 with its original sleeve.
I found my old HP 16C calculator this weekend. Thought I lost it when I last moved.
Still works great! RPN is still something wonderful to deal with.
The 16C can display int in hex, dec, oct and bin, and convert numbers from one base to another.
