Young chimpanzee Giggi was a victim of #illegaltrade and neglect. He was forced to live as a pet and without conspecifics, meaning he never learned natural chimpanzee behaviour. In this video, we explain how we help Giggi to become a chimpanzee again > youtube.com/shorts/Ecd-a... #WildAnimalsNotPets
Young chimpanzee Giggi came to our rescue centre in Almere this week. Giggi was kept illegally as a pet, chained up in a yard in Sicily. After a short recovery period at #BioparcodiRoma, Giggi is now safe at AAP. Watch his heartbreaking story in this video: youtu.be/Ta_XSvrNo6g

Serval Nini's owner gave her up since the wild nature of a serval is difficult to reconcile with a domestic setting. At AAP, Nini has settled in and we’re introducing her to a male serval. If they bond, we’ll find them a forever home at outplacement partners #WildAnimalsNotPets
Lions Elsa and Marley are now 10 years old! When they were still very young, they were taken away from their mother and sold to a private individual in Germany. The cubs managed to escape and were confiscated. At AAP, they grew up into beautiful adults #WildAnimalsNotPets
Caracal Feder was wandering the streets of a small town in Germany in 2022. She was rescued and taken care of by the German rescue centre Raubtier- and Exotenasyl. However, they needed to find her a new home, and AAP was able to take her in.

Another heartbreaking story. If this animal wasn't found, they would have likely died from starvation or from the Canadian cold weather - just brutal.
Yes, pets are here to stay, but only few species are actually able to thrive in a home. #WildAnimalsNotPets

This is such an incredible achievement @aap-europe.bsky.social! We'll be talking more about this journey of rescue, policy and collaboration at @CITES CoP20. A clear reminder why I'm doing this work in the first place, wild animals should be where they belong, in the wild. #WildAnimalsNotPets
Serval Noa had a challenging start in life. Thankfully, she was able to recover at AAP. Recently, Noa and her companion Mio found a great forever home at our outplacement partner @ardmoreopenfarm in Ireland! #WildAnimalsNotPets >

Los animales exóticos no son animales domésticos y en entornos humanos son condenados a estrés continuo y la falta de estímulos adecuados a su naturaleza, abocándolos a una vida de sufrimiento. NO contribuyas a que se perciban como animales que puedan estar en casa.
