Loads grind to a halt at Christmas but there’s nothing better than a walk with the dog.

It only takes a minute to make a difference & with 29,000 of us, that really does add up!! 42 million pieces of #litter every year. 😊❤️🐾

There are so many other things to work on first, while we figure out actually useful alternatives to the things disabled people need.

The crisis is here, and critical, and immediate, massive action is needed. We don't have to harm disabled people to do it.

There are so many places in the supply chains where plastic is unnecessary - plastic wrapped multipacks of tins/bottles, plastic wrapped magazines, plastic toys, balloons, boxes. It's everywhere.

There are plenty of plastic packaging targets which have nothing to do with ensuring already marginalised (and usually poorer) people have access to safe, easy to eat or drink sustenance. Please, please, please focus on those. #WarOnPlastic

Some alternatives meet some criteria, and by all means, go ahead and use them. But putting any barriers to disabled people being able to hydrate when out is not remotely where we should be focusing our energies.

Straws are necessary for so many disabled people, and no single alternative exists which meets the same criteria - posable, clean, hypoallergenic, doesn't fall apart during use, can be used with hot and cold liquids, doesn't cause injury during a spasm. #WarOnPlastic

It's only since the advent of pre-chopped veg, pre-washed salads and fruit, that my diet has been anything close to healthy since I got sick. I usually don't have the manual dexterity or stable enough joints to chop, peel, wash, dry, produce.

I've seen the usual suspects doing the rounds - pre-prepared fruit and veg (including a peeled orange in plastic), plastic straws, etc. These things are not 'lazy', they are brilliant, beautiful things which have revolutionised the lives of many disabled people. #WarOnPlastic

As everyone is getting angry for the #WarOnPlastic, which is an entirely worthy campaign, please be aware that just because you can't see a purpose for something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Be willing to prioritise targets to not screw over disabled people.
