Photo of a hand-painted banner reading "fred's TOP 30" in purple letters on a golden yellow background. The tops of CD cases are visible at the bottom of the photo. "fred's" and the drawing next to it are the logo for the fred's records store.
Guess which MUN professor is on Fred's Top 30? #WeAreMUN @munfaculty.bsky.social
In 2024, Premier Wakeham said abandoning Memorial University and telling it to 'go fix your problems' was 'not good enough.' These are his own words, on the record with CBC. Budget-2026 is his chance to prove he believed them.

Me and three astrophysics grad students standing in front of the CBC sign.
The graduate students sitting in the radio studio with the host.
Proud supervisor moment with some of the grad students chatting with CBC’s On the Go about the Artemis II return. The students did an amazing job. #Astronomy #WeAreMUN

Without resources we are looking at miracles
despite their dedication, there is a limit to what staff student and faculty can do to work with community to do things better for them

Deep funding cuts = deep losses
Imagine how much potential can be realized if leaders return to funding our university as the investment in NL it’s always been ?

What do we stand to lose if Memorial continues to be starved of basic funding? Students' freedom to learn and thrive through a diverse set of pathways to life-changing and world-changing knowledge.

The economic case for investing in Memorial hasn’t weakened, but the province’s commitment has.
It’s time for the provincial government to act accordingly.

Memorial Matters: "As a librarian, I make learning and discovery accessible to all. I support our newest students as they begin their studies and work on their first research projects. I work with our seasoned researchers as they navigate complex webs of information. I help our community members make sense of the shifting information landscapes around them, exploring everything from generative AI to the news and social media. Our librarians and archivists across the university enable and encourage hands-on history making, inspire the creation of new art and literature, inform scientific development, and champion critical thinking. I am proud to be among them, shaping a flourishing learning community and contributing to the knowledge-making and creative expression that define our province." - Chelsea Humphries, Librarian faculty member (MUN Grenfell Campus)

Memorial Matters: "Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook was a turning point in my academic journey, especially as a mature student returning to school. After previous experiences at larger university campuses where lecture halls held 200+ students, I found Grenfell to be a completely different and far more rewarding environment. The smaller class sizes created a more intimate and engaging learning experience, where discussions felt meaningful and participation came naturally. What stood out most was the opportunity to truly connect with professors. I never felt like just another number on a roster; instead, I felt seen, supported, and encouraged. That level of accessibility made a huge difference in my confidence and success. Grenfell provided not just an education, but a community where I could thrive, grow, and rediscover my academic potential." - Student

MUNFA will keep bringing these facts to the people who need to hear them. The only university in Newfoundland and Labrador deserves stable, adequate funding. 4/4

Memorial Matters: "I have been asked to help two community groups, The Legion and The Corner Brook Museum and Archives to assist in interviewing older community members with special historic and cultural knowledge so that we can preserve their experiences for future generations. This is not part of my research but a donation of my time and skills to help my community. I am privileged and honoured to have helped preserve the legacy of World War II, Korean War and members who served in several peace-keeping missions. I have a special skillset in conducting oral history interviews honed over 30 years of professional experience. My job and my profession helps my community." - Faculty member
