Tuesday – UNESCO Week of Sound in Edinburgh

I am very much looking forward to this talk by Anne Desler at the #WeekOfSound about the ridiculousness of staging and stage effects in Baroque opera. Contemporary opera needs more pyrotechnics and crocodiles.

It's a crab.

It's a crab.

Here's a velvet swimming crab chilling in the green room ahead of its Edinburgh concert debut next Monday at the UNESCO #WeekOfSound.
And I'm not even joking.

A photograph of a serpent in a music instrument museum. Don't worry, it's not poisonous and it's not alive and in fact it's not even a snake. It's actually a big old weird-looking curvy wind instrument, hence the name.

It certainly looks a bit wavy, but how does it work? Curator Jenny Nex has the answers at this special tour of the collection at St Cecilia's Hall for the second #WeekOfSound in #Edinburgh

Quiet, please! The remarkable power of silence – for our bodies and our minds Our increasingly noisy world has been linked to cardiovascular disease, anxiety and depression, as well as hearing loss. But that’s not the only reason we need more peace and quiet in our lives

This article from @theguardian.com really underlines what the UNESCO #WeekOfSound is all about. We live in a sounding world — it plays a significant role in our wellbeing.
